About MeisterCalc
MeisterCalc is a construction calculator for Android, made metric-first for carpenters, builders and DIYers in Australia, New Zealand and the UK, with feet, inches and sixteenths in Settings. It has 15 calculators, each with a live diagram, and the calculations work offline.
Who makes it
MeisterCalc is made by Sai Nath, a product engineer at Meru Apps, an independent app studio in Kerala, India. Sai Nath designs and builds the app and writes this blog.
How the blog is written
Sai Nath is an engineer, not a builder, so the blog leans on two things you can check:
- Every worked example is calculated with the same formulas the app uses, and the numbers are shown step by step so you can do them by hand.
- Every building rule, limit or product figure links to the official source it comes from, with the date it was checked.
Building rules are set by the National Construction Code, the New Zealand Building Code, the Approved Documents and your local council, not by this blog or the app. When a page and a source disagree, the source wins.
Corrections
If you spot a mistake, email meruappsdev@gmail.com. Fixes are made on the page and its "Updated" date changes.
